Sometimes I write fanfiction for various series, and sometimes I go looking for it.
A lot of the time, fanfiction is just hilariously bad. But sometimes it's a great, worthwhile read. Hell, it was because of fanfiction that I started writing in the first place. (I was inspired by King of Mercury's Sailormoon fanfic, Mercury Twilight.) I still write fanfics, but not as much as I used to.
Most of my fanfiction involves original-characters, and I like exploring scenarios that COULD happen in canon, but haven't YET, or what goes on with people who are uninvolved with the main plot, who just happen to be looking in on what's going on.
I particularly like writing Sailor Moon fanfiction, because I'm a geek like that.
My first story was, looking back, so freaking hilariously HORRID. At the time, though, I thought I was the next goddamn Naoko Takeuchi. Sailor Lily Petal and the Flower Senshi! They had to keep an eye on Princess Kakyuu's gardens. Why, I don't know. There was nothing particularly important about these gardens. They were just plain patches of flowers and trees. (In canon, there IS a very important garden, but it's already got two guardians--Sailors Chi and Phi. This garden contained Star Seeds, which were the very essence of being for Sailor Senshi.) I like the idea, though, of the Axis Mundi--the tree of the world--being in danger and somebody having to save it.
I also tried my hand at Ronin Warriors fanfiction (ending in disaster) and Digimon fanfiction. Digimon fanfiction was okay, but such things as digivolving and shit just translate better to a visual medium.
Harry Potter fanfiction is my other main thing these days. Right now, the two fics I'm writing for Harry Potter barely involve canon characters. One of them involves some Hufflepuff chicks who try to cope with what's going on in canon--Voldemort rising and all that. The other one is a silly parody of self-insert/Mary Sue fanfiction. Most of it goes "girl falls into world, girl is loved by all canon characters, girl saves the day." So far, my story goes "Leiko falls into world, Leiko is looked upon with great suspicion and confusion, Leiko makes a nuisance of herself."
But Sailor Moon fanfic is still my pet project. I've got countless fan-Senshi to my name. You've got your usual Sailors Earth, Sun, and Neo-Moon who fight against an evil queen; you've got Sailor Polaris, who isn't here to fight, but to collect information for the Galactic Library System; Sailors Epsilon, Delta, and Theta, who aren't REAL Sailor Senshi with real Star Seeds, but were rather created for the sake of convenience from blank Star Seeds so they could help fight an evil creature; the Primordial Senshi, who are trying to return everything to the way it was at the beginning of time; and many many many more.
Sometimes I think I've got too much time on my hands and too much chatter in my brain.
