Aww, Syd Barrett died. I liked Syd Barrett. :( Shine on, crazy old diamond man.
In other news: I'm pondering learning the bass guitar. I'd really like to bring my poetry to life as music, and there are a lot of theatrics that I think would only work in the realm of rock n' roll--like wearing a full-length black cloak with a hood to hide my identity. A) I'm not very photogenic at all. B) I'd like to try to return some kind of mystery to music. Everything is so stripped-down, and not in the good, thoughtful, reflective, acoustic Pete Townshend-John Lennon-intelligent-musician way. People describe too much and prance around in their panties onstage and in videos. Nothing left to the imagination. And music is highly unimaginative these days, too. It's either "BITCHES AND HOES" or "I'M SUCH A HO HA HA HA" or "MY GIRLFRIEND BROKE UP WITH ME AND I SLIT MY WRISTS NOW". There's nothing deeper. Nobody writes thoughtful music--like Pete's "Bargain" or John Lennon's "Imagine" or "Working Class Hero". Shit, nobody writes FUN music, either. It all has the same beat and the same tune. I long to be warped magically back to the days when music sounded different from song to song.
Anyway: I write poems and I'd like to turn them into music. "Young America" is one of my favorites, though it's got two versions--one that's sarcastic and bitchy, and one that's more a plea to Young America to get it the fuck together. I might split it into two different poems about two different-yet-kinda-similar things.
I like to think that I have a LITTLE bit of variety. There's some about happy things like rainbows and sunshine and how wonderful the world is... then there's some somewhat disturbing shit about being eaten alive by the Goddess Kali and how bad the world is fucked.
And then there's outright weird stuff that just came off the top of my head.
What do you think?
Perhaps tomorrow I'll share the poem and ask your opinions on it. Whether I should split it into two or keep it as one long musical rant. XP
In other OTHER news: I went to the gas station today and saw a stack of copies of "Wild Weed World" magazine. I didn't think they'd sell that out in the open like they were! I seriously considered buying a copy, too. Just to read it. XP
In other other OTHER news: Happy 150th Post, y'all!
