Got into a discussion over on CF_HC about Halloween, and got to think about what I should do for this Halloween.
Last year, I went to this house down by the lake that always has a Haunted House running out of their backyard. I just went right in and made myself at home as a living statue. I was originally going to be a Blue Meanie that night, but unfortunately, I had a surgical device attached to my backside that would have made the costume rather difficult and ugly. So I just got a long, swooshy black cloak with an enormous hood and wore that. I think the attitude seriously made that costume work. People would walk past and say "Hello!" or "Happy Halloween!", absolutely convinced that I was real and would break character to talk to them.
But I wouldn't even acknowledge that I'd heard them. I would just keep staring straight ahead through the cloak's hood. And when I was roaming the neighborhood on my way home, I still wouldn't acknowledge them. Instead of the usual bouncy little walk I've got, I adopted this slow, limping shuffle and continued hobbling on. Like I was a ghost. A mere passerby to this world. It was really fun to freak those people out.
I also had a bottle of fake blood, cleverly concealed underneath the sleeves of the cloak, that I would drip onto the pavement as I walked. So there was a trail of "blood" from the lake to my house. I imagine that rather unnerved anybody who followed me.
It was a fun night. I didn't trick-or-treat. But I enjoyed scaring the shit out of everybody I met. I might do that again this year. I'll have to do eenie-meenie-miney-mo to pick a costume this year! O_o;; I've got so many good ideas.
