I've noticed that whenever I write, there are at least five semi-obscure musical references tied in. Usually more if there's a large cast.
Examples:
In the Starchildren fanfic, there's an illusionist who creates images of her daydreams for fun. Her codename? Sleepy Jean. (Daydream Believer--the Monkees)
Rosalie Lynott. Rosalie being the name of a Thin Lizzy song. Lynott being the lead singer's last name.
They live outside a town named Clarksville. (Last Train to Clarksville--the Monkees again)
There's a man named Jim who can psychically communicate with reptiles. Codename: The Lizard King.
And there are so many more.
It's like one big classic-rock-geek obscure-trivia orgy!
Even the name of the commune's members is a reference to a Jefferson Airplane song (Have You Seen the Saucers?) "Starchildren, on the black road to salvation, children of the forest, child of the Woodstock Nation..."
I am the QUEEN OF THE GEEKS, I tell you.
